A Day Being Pink
I'm very much a breakfast person. Or more specifically, a Western breakfast person.
I like loh mai kai and some nasi lemak as much as the next (fat) person, but it's eggs, beans, sausages and toast that have always got me going! Hotel buffet breakfasts are always the highlight of any holiday.
Now getting up in time for breakfast is hard enough, and finding places that serve Western breakfast sets at a more reasonable hour (read: when the sun is at its highest) is like a needle in a greasy anti-brunch haystack.
So when David and I went to The Pink Sage Diner & Pantry (site) a few weeks ago for dinner and discovered that they serve breakfast right until 6PM (WOWZERS!), I knew I had to go back during the day to try it!! I mean c'mon, full breakfasts served till 6PM - this is a place after my own heart.

Check out their breakfast menu here and tell me how is it possible to pick one!! I was going back and forth between the "Stacked Breakfast" (eggs, beef/chicken/lamb sausage, streaky beef brisket, potatoes, mushrooms, beans, toast for RM17.50) or the "Greasy Breakfast" (fried eggs with corned beef, hash browns, streaky beef brisket, fried tomatoes for RM15.50)!
It was a tough call (and since David didnt want to have a breakfast set. boo him!), my undying love for corned beef won and I took the "Greasy Breakfast".
There's a reason why it's called a "Greasy Breakfast". Everything on that plate is fried to greasy, oily, juicy satisfaction. The kind that only the threat of a heart attack can bring.
The plate is stacked with a glorious tower of breakfast goodies at the ripe old hour of 1PM. I think the fried egg consisted of 2 or 3 eggs and on top of it, a generous helping of corned beef. Salty, savoury, slightly crispy-around-the-edges corned beef. I love love love corned beef. I dont want to know what part of the cow goes in to it (or if there is any cow in it for that matter), but I could eat it everyday! I havent had it in awhile, and Pink Sage's corned beef tastes awesome. The little fried cherry tomatoes were juicy and since I love tomatoes, win!
The hash brown is standard fare with the usual crunchy outside and soft fluffy inside, while the streaky beef brisket was a nice replacement to bacon. It was slightly tough to chew, but really gives you the satisfaction of chewing that little hunk of salty beef. Yum!
I wish the portion was a little bit bigger though. But then again, it is supposed to be breakfast anyway.
There was a little mix-up with our lunch order, so David had an Angus Cheeseburger (RM30-something if I'm not mistaken) instead.
I've never heard of Angus beef before, having thought of Angus as a sort of tough Scottish person in a kilt and a menacing stare, but apparently Angus is the new Wagyu, so we gave it a shot.
Wow. That Angus beef sure is something. What a burger!! I might be going out on a limb here, but that was the best beef cheeseburger I've ever had! The patty had a strong beef-y smoky flavour and was incredibly juicy, but not oily. It was perfectly cooked (no blood for me please) and the patty wasnt too dry, but at the same time, didnt leave me with that too-much-beef feeling. Ok, I'm terrible at describing beef (except when it comes to beefy guys), but seriously, this Angus Cheeseburger is something else!!
Definitely something I'd order again and again.
I had a special treat too - Haagen Dazs Chocolate Ice Cream Milkshake (RM13.50)! Divinely creamy and smooth, anything chocolate will do it for me.
I'm already planning my next visit to The Pink Sage Diner & Pantry to try out their entire breakfast menu (pancakes for lunch, anyone?)!
It's a cosy little nook too, and it was packed on a Saturday with very happy looking people celebrating birthdays or trying to pass off breakfast at 1PM as socially acceptable.

Getting there: If you're familiar with the route to Solaris Mont Kiara, head that way and just keep going straight when that Solaris is on your left and you'll reach a traffic light junction. Turn right and keep going all the way straight (the road curves left a little, but dont panic!) and Solaris Dutamas will be on your left. Alternatively, it's quite near Jalan Duta. If all else fails, here. Why they have 2 places with almost the same name about 3 minutes from one another is beyond my understanding.
